Women's Riding Helmets: Styles, Colors, and Sizes 2026

Women's riding helmets have evolved enormously. Today, they combine certified safety with attractive designs, varied colors, and adjustments designed for the female anatomy. Here are the best models.

Is there a difference between men's and women's helmets?

Technically, the safety shell is the same. However, "women's" helmets usually have:

  • Thinner linings to accommodate hair tied up
  • More varied colors and designs (blue, maroon, burgundy, gold)
  • Satin or matte finishes with textures
  • Some models with rear openings for ponytails or buns

Colors and disciplines

Color Use in competition Use in training
Matte/satin black ✅ Dressage, show jumping, eventing ✅ Always valid
Navy / dark blue ✅ Show jumping, eventing ✅ Widely used
Burgundy / maroon ⚠️ Only some disciplines ✅ Training
Pastel colors ❌ Official competition ✅ Classes and hobby

How to choose the correct size

Measure the circumference of your head with a tape measure at the height of your forehead, just above your eyebrows. Most helmets use this measurement in centimeters:

  • XS: 52-54 cm
  • S: 54-56 cm
  • M: 56-58 cm
  • L: 58-60 cm
  • XL: 60-62 cm
