Riding stirrups are a small but critical element for rider safety and effectiveness. A good stirrup can release the foot in case of a fall, preventing serious accidents.

What size stirrup do I need?

The stirrup should be between 1.5 and 2.5 cm wider than the sole of your boot. Guidance by boot size:

Boot 36-37 → stirrup 11.5-12 cm
Boot 38-40 → stirrup 12-12.5 cm
Boot 41-43 → stirrup 12.5-13 cm
Boot 44+ → stirrup 13-13.5 cm

Classic stirrups

Traditional U-shaped model. Works well for experienced riders. More economical and easy to maintain.

Safety stirrups

Incorporate a mechanism that releases the foot in case of a fall. Main types:

Hinged arm: one side opens under lateral pressure. The most common.
Rubber ring: one side has rubber that gives way when falling. Simple and economical.
Offset/open design: the geometry naturally directs the foot outwards.
Magnetic: use magnets to maintain the correct position and release the foot when falling.

For beginners, children, and show jumping, safety stirrups are highly recommended.

Materials

Stainless steel: the most resistant and economical. Slightly heavier. Ideal for daily use.
Aluminum: lighter, reduces fatigue on long rides. Does not rust.
Titanium: the lightest and most resistant. For high-level competition.
Composite: very lightweight, ideal for children and riders with joint problems.

For riders with knee or ankle pain

Maintenance
