Summer Horse Blankets: Sheets, Fly Sheets, and Fleece Blankets
In summer, horses also need blankets —though with very different functions than in winter. Summer blankets protect against insects, sun, and nocturnal temperature changes.

The fly sheet in summer
The fly sheet is perhaps the most used in Spain during the months of June to September. Made of breathable mesh, they do not retain heat but create a physical barrier against flies, horseflies, and mosquitoes. Many models also include a fly hood to protect the head.
Fleece blanket: the year-round joker
The fleece blanket is the most versatile item of any equipment. In summer it serves to:
- Dry the horse after bathing
- Keep warm on cool summer nights (especially in mountainous areas)
- Use as a wicking layer under other blankets in winter
