Fly sheets play a key role in a horse's well-being. They protect from cold, rain, insects, or help with drying after exercise.
What to consider when choosing a fly sheet?
Below we review the technical criteria that have the most impact on the final decision. These are the same criteria we apply in the store when a customer asks us.
- Weight. No fill (0g) for summer and drying, 100-200g for in-between seasons, 300-400g for winter. Clipped horses need more weight.
- Waterproofing. For outdoor use, it is measured in millimeters of water column: 1,500 mm minimum, 3,000 mm ideal for rainy areas like Galicia.
- Size. Measured from the center of the chest to the base of the tail. This measurement in cm is the blanket size (95 to 175 cm for standard horses).
- Closure system. Double cross surcingles for greater stability; tail flap optional but recommended for outdoor use.
