My Riding Pants Keep Falling Down — Solutions

Updated: May 2026 · Rincón del Valle Technical Team

The problem

"When I ride, my riding breeches gradually slide down and I have to readjust them."

This is one of the most frequent problems our customers consult us about at our physical store in A Coruña and via WhatsApp. Here we break it down with real causes and proven solutions.

Why does this happen? — Frequent causes

  • Too low-rise. Low-rise breeches tend to slide down, especially in dynamic disciplines like jumping.
  • Worn-out elastic waistband. The elastic in the waistband loses tension with repeated washing after 1-2 years of use.
  • Larger than correct size. If you bought size M when you are S+, the breeches will "dance."
  • Lack of belt loops. Some beginner breeches don't have belt loops. Without a belt, they slide down.

How to solve it

Solution 1: Prefer high-waist

Brands like Kingsland, Pikeur, Equestrian Stockholm offer high-waist. Much better support.

Solution 2: Renew the elastic

If the waistband is worn out, take the breeches to a seamstress to replace the elastic. It costs €10 and extends their life by 2 years.

Solution 3: Verify size with current chart

Measure waist, hips, and inseam. Compare with the brand's specific chart before ordering.

Solution 4: Buy a model with belt loops

Most technical breeches have loops for a thin belt. It helps a lot.
