How to Measure Your Riding Boot Size

This is our step-by-step guide to measuring the correct riding boot size. We have created it based on the most frequently asked questions from our customers at our physical store in A Coruña and via WhatsApp.
What you need
- Measuring tape
- Large sheet of paper
- Pencil
- Socks of the thickness you will wear for riding
Detailed steps
Step 1: Measure at the end of the day
Your foot swells during the day. Taking the measurement in the afternoon gives you the actual size you will have when riding.
Step 2: Place your foot on the paper
Step firmly on a sheet of paper with your sock on. The paper should be against a wall.
Step 3: Trace the outline of your foot
With the pencil held close to your foot, trace the complete outline. Include the longest toe and the heel.
Step 4: Measure length and width
Measure in cm from the heel mark to the longest toe mark (length). Also measure the width at the widest part of the foot.
Step 5: Measure calf height (tall boots)
For tall boots, measure the circumference of your calf at its thickest part. Critical: a tight boot won't go up; a loose boot will slip.
Step 6: Measure height from the ground
For tall boots, measure from the ground to just below the knee. This is usually between 42-50 cm depending on the rider's height.
Step 7: Consult each brand's chart
IMPORTANT: each brand has its own chart. HKM, Ariat, De Niro, Stübben have different sizing. Ask us if you have doubts (info@rincondv.com).
Common mistakes to avoid
- Don't measure/place in a hurry: every minute invested here prevents discomfort for the horse or rider.

For tall boots, in addition to the foot, you must choose shaft height (measured from the ground to the hollow of the knee, bending slightly) and calf width (circumference at the widest point). These categories vary by manufacturer (e.g., De Niro uses its own codes): choose the variant that matches your measurements or consult us.
