At what age can you start horse riding?
For children, most riding schools begin regular classes from age 5-6 with small ponies and instructors specialized in children's education. There are playful introductory classes with lead-line horses starting at ages 3-4. For adolescents and adults, there is no age limit: you can start riding at any age, adapting the intensity and discipline to your physical level.
Children ages 3-5
Highly playful classes, small ponies on a lead line, short sessions (15-20 minutes). Rather than learning technique, it is about familiarization.
Children ages 6-10
Formal start with ponies and specialized instructors. VG1 helmet in child size is mandatory. 45-60 minute sessions.
Adolescents and adults
Any age. Physical condition influences it more than age. It is best to start with walking and posting trot before moving on to canter.
Older adults
Horseback riding is accessible into old age with calm horses and adapted disciplines (trail riding, basic dressage, no jumping).
