How to choose the right size
A tall riding boot is not chosen by shoe size alone. Three measurements are needed, and this is exactly what prevents the most returns:
- Foot length, from toe to heel, while standing.
- Height, from the ground to the hollow behind the knee.
- Calf circumference, at its widest point.
Measure yourself while wearing your riding breeches, not jeans or bare legs: the difference is several centimeters and is the most common cause of a boot not closing. Do it in the afternoon, as the foot and calf swell during the day.

Several brands manufacture the same model in different shaft widths as separate references. If the calf circumference is too tight, look for the wide version before going up a shoe size.
Leather yields slightly in circumference with use and the shaft drops a few millimeters when the ankle creases form, but it does not stretch in foot length: do not compensate for a short size hoping it will stretch. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.
