Which riding breeches size should you choose?
Riding breeches size is chosen by taking three actual measurements: waist, hips, and inseam. Each brand has its own specific chart (HKM, Kingsland, and Pikeur are sized differently). As a general rule: if your measurement falls between two sizes, it is best to choose the tighter one because the fabric gives with use. Once you know your size, you can view all the riding breeches in the store.
Measurements to take
Waist (narrowest part), hips (widest part), inseam (from crotch to ankle). Measure with a soft measuring tape while wearing thin clothing underneath.
Differences between brands
HKM tends to run small (go up one size compared to your usual clothing). Kingsland uses strict European sizing. Pikeur uses DE (German) sizing. Equestrian Stockholm uses European sizing.
If in doubt
Choose the tighter size. The elastic fabric (4-way stretch) gives with use. A loose size will shift during work and cause more chafing.
