How to choose the right size
A tall riding boot is not chosen solely by foot size. Three measurements are needed, which is exactly what prevents the most returns:
- Foot length, from toe to heel, while standing.
- Height, from the ground to the hollow behind the knee.
- Calf circumference, at its widest point.
Measure yourself wearing your riding breeches, not jeans or with a bare leg: the difference is several centimeters and is the most common reason a boot does not close. Do this in the afternoon, as the foot and calf swell during the day.

Several brands manufacture the same model in different shaft widths as separate references. If the calf circumference is tight, look for the wide version before going up a foot size.
Leather yields slightly in circumference with use and the shaft drops a few millimeters when the ankle creases form, but foot length does not yield: do not compensate for a short size hoping it will stretch. If in doubt between two sizes, choose the larger one.
