How to choose the right size
A tall riding boot is not chosen solely by foot size. Three measurements are needed, and this is exactly what prevents the most returns:
- Foot length, from toe to heel and standing up.
- Height, from the ground to the hollow behind the knee.
- Calf circumference, at its widest point.
Measure yourself wearing your riding breeches, not jeans or bare legs: the difference is several centimeters and is the most common cause of a boot not closing. Do it in the afternoon, as the foot and calf swell during the day.

Various brands manufacture the same model in different calf widths as separate references. If the calf circumference is tight, look for the wide version before going up a foot size.
Leather yields slightly in circumference with use and the shaft drops a few millimeters when the ankle creases form, but it does not yield in foot length: do not compensate for a short size hoping it will stretch. If in doubt between two, choose the larger one.
