How to take each measurement, according to Freejump:

  • A · Height: from the top of the head to the soles of the feet.
  • B · Chest: circumference at the widest point.
  • C · Waist: circumference of the abdomen at its narrowest point.
  • D · Hips: circumference at the widest point.
  • E · Back: measured from the back, from the waistline to the shoulder line.

The T in the XST, ST, MT, and LT sizes is the tall version: same circumference, longer back height.

The FREEJUMP AIRBAG is a protective vest designed specifically for riding, to protect the rider's vital areas in a fall. It can be worn over a thin layer of clothing — T-shirt, sweatshirt or thin jumper — or over a jacket.

Certified safety, 100% made in France.

Certified safety, made in France

France is the first country to have adopted a standard regulating the manufacture of riding airbags as Personal Protective Equipment. Pending European harmonisation, NF S72-800-2022 sets strict criteria for protection area, inflation speed and impact testing.

The Freejump Airbag was the first riding airbag vest certified to this standard, and it reaches the required pressure with full inflation in 98 milliseconds in size S, better than the standard requires. Beyond meeting it, it withstands horizontal impacts and offers outstanding protection against longitudinal impacts along the spine.

It is made 100% in France.

Exactly which areas it protects

It covers the neck, back, lumbar area, sacrum, pelvis and chest. It is designed on the basis that the rider wears a certified helmet, and it includes a stabilising collar that protects the spine and vital areas.

Protection of the neck, chest and back is calculated for each size: at the front it covers 24% of the chest circumference and 100% of the waist-to-shoulder distance, and at the back 20% of the chest circumference and 120% of that same distance.

The side protection keeps the torso aligned, and the spine, pelvis, hips and vital organs are reinforced thanks to the two torso lengths of sizes XS, S, M and L, in regular or long versions.

Comfort and compatibility

It is made from silky Italian fabrics with perforated sides, which give ventilation and comfort. The fitted cut and flexible materials aim to protect without getting in the way. The safety lanyard has a textile loop so it does not make noise when it rubs against the carabiner of the ball lanyard.

It can be worn over or under a compatible jacket. The NF S72-800-2022 standard requires an official CRITT compatibility test for any jacket worn over an airbag, and the Freejump Airbag has passed it.

It can be worn over a thin layer of clothing (T-shirt, sweatshirt or light jumper) or over a jacket.

How to choose the right size

This is Freejump's chart, and it reflects the protection area the airbag covers. Two notes from the manufacturer before you choose: the minimum user weight is 35 kg, and sizes ending in T (XST, ST, MT, LT) are the slim fit cut, with the same circumferences as the regular size but longer in the back.

How to measure: height from the crown of the head to the sole of the foot; chest, the circumference at the widest point; waist, the circumference of the abdomen at its narrowest point; hips, the circumference at the widest point; and back length, measured at the back from the waistline to the shoulder line.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worn over or under clothing?

It is worn on top: over a thin layer of clothing — T-shirt, sweatshirt or thin jumper — or over a jacket.

Does it need recharging after deployment?

Yes. The gas canister must be replaced after every activation. Freejump sells the specific replacement cartridges for each model.

What happens if I fall wearing it?

The vest inflates when the safety lanyard that connects it to the saddle is pulled free. After a heavy impact, the equipment should be checked following the manufacturer's instructions.

Which standard does it meet?

NF S72-800-2022, the French standard that regulates riding airbags as personal protective equipment. The Freejump Airbag was the first riding airbag vest certified to it.

How long does it take to inflate?

98 milliseconds in size S for full inflation, better than the standard requires.

Can it be worn under a jacket?

Yes, over or under a compatible jacket. The standard requires an official CRITT test for any jacket worn over an airbag, and the Freejump Airbag has passed it.

Is there a minimum weight?

Yes: 25 kg in children's sizes and 35 kg from XXS upwards.
